It is a form of mental torture. It comes out of ego and a lack of understanding and is an act of selfishness because you want to be heard at all costs and you want your way, no matter what.

Instead of listening to you, the person being nagged will not listen to you at all and will turn a deaf ear and may even do exactly the opposite if the nagging continues.
